Transformations
Transformations
A creative path is never a straight road, but a journey of flux, unexpected obstacles, enchanted encounters and transformation. In this very special double event for the Soho Poly Summer Festival, musician and author Emma-Lee Moss (Emmy The Great, lei,e) and poet Deborah Finding explore creativity in action, in the form of an afternoon workshop and an evening conversation and performance.
Transformations I – Afternoon Workshop, 3-5pm
In this multi-sensory workshop, participants will be invited to consider their own creative power as we approach midsummer, and flowers bloom into their potential. Together, we will share writing exercises, floral craft activities, and conversation about fairy and folk tales from childhood, as we think about the creative projects we want to transform. We will then bring our snippets of recollection, wishes and incantations together to create a group composition, which may be a song, a poem, or something in between boundaries and definitions, like the magical beings in the old tales. No writing or musical experience necessary!
Transformations II – Evening Conversation and Performance, 7-9pm
Where do we find the breadcrumbs that will lead us out of the woods – those places that scare or unsettle us – and towards something we might recognise as home? Join musician and author Emma-Lee Moss (Emmy The Great, lei,e) and poet Deborah Finding as they embark on a winding journey through their creative worlds, asking curious questions of each other and themselves, and exploring the inherited stories, fairytales and myths that have been their companions or familiars. Expect a unique evening exploring the soft places between prose, poetry and song, as Emma-Lee and Deborah share a broad range of both old and brand new work, celebrating the transformations past and welcoming those yet to come.
PLEASE NOTE: You must buy separate tickets for the afternoon and evening events.
