UNSUNG: UNSAID. IN CONVERSATION AND BOOK SIGNING

12.30-2.00pm

Rob Chapman in conversation about his book Unsung: Unsaid. Syd Barrett and Nick Drake in the Soho Poly? Whilst you may be aware of the Soho Poly’s recent relaunch as an arts space hosting over seventy events over the last year, and you may know of its history as an important place in alternative theatre history, do you know about its musical roots? In the past couple of years we have hosted Emmy the Great, Beatowls, Pete Astor, and more, and in the 1970s experimental musicians such as Derek Bailey graced the stage. Before that though, in the late 1960s/early 1970s the space was host to the Polyfolk club. Shelagh Macdonald, Michael Claire, Hratch, Johnny Silvo, Maureen Kennedy Martin played amongst others, and we know Syd Barret visited. But did his path collide with Nick Drake in our basement?
