Zine Making Workshops

Thursdays 10am – 1pm

Zines have the power to tell a fun story about the world we live in, focusing on the very tiny or the huge things that shape our lives. They can range from a zine about your knee after surgery, south Asian identity in the modern world, or a Meal Deal. Soho Poly are inviting this energy in and are putting on three weeks of zine workshops exploring the idea of ‘Place’. We’ll be exploring everything from our front door to our street as we cut, stick, draw, write, or fold. Zines encourage us to focus on the magic and marvel of the things we see around us, come join in!

Week One, 6 November: Home

What does the place that you live in feel like? What do you love? What do you not? This session will give us a chance to think about the place you live. Maybe its about the colour of a wall in temporary accommodation, the sounds in halls, our bodies stretching out on a bed.

Week Two, 13 November: Object

What object feels like home to you? This session will encourage you to make a zine that represents home to you. Maybe it’s a soft toy, or a tissue box, or a blanket. What does it look, feel and sound like? What does it represent?

Week Three, 20 November: Place

What does the area you spend time in say about itself? How does this chime with what you would say? This session will encourage you to make a zine around a place and geography that represents home to you. Maybe it’s a street, a country, or even a neighbour.

The sessions will be led by journalist, author and zine maker Kieran Yates.
